Fossil fish records, 1873-1980.

Correspondence, and some reports and other papers principally discussing acquisition of specimens from the United States and overseas by field work, exchange, purchase, transfer, and gift. Correspondents include Bobb Schaeffer, Edwin H. Colbert, William K. Gregory, and Alfred Romer. Some correspondence referring to acquisition of Cope Collection. In addition, photographs and drawings of fossil fish including exhibits at the Museum in the Fossil Fish Hall; published articles written by William K. Gregory; a series of papers, 1873-ca. 1902, relating to the Newberry Collection of Fossil Fishes (collected by John S. Newberry in Ohio, and transferred to the Museum from Columbia University in 1904) include notes, field information, and drawings prepared by Newberry; letters to Newberry from other collectors and researchers such as William Clark and William Kepler.
